Alex Pissios: Who is he?
He has been instrumental in bringing major film and television productions to Chicago, including The Dark Knight, Transformers, and Divergent.
Pissios was born in Chicago and raised in the city’s southwest suburbs. He graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he earned a degree in finance. When he was done with college, he started his career in the entertainment industry, working as an assistant to producer Joel Silver on such films as The Matrix trilogy and V for Vendetta.
In 2006, Pissios co-founded Cinespace Chicago Film Studios with partners Nick Mirkopoulos and Jim Wolcott. Under Pissios’ leadership, Cinespace has grown to become one of the country’s most successful film production facilities, attracting significant productions such as The Dark Knight, Transformers, Divergent, and Empire.

Pissios has been with Cinespace since its inception in 2004. He has overseen the construction of all eight of the company’s facilities, totaling over 1.5 million square feet of studio space. He has also been of great significance in securing over $1 billion in film and television production for the state of Illinois.
Pissios’ passion for film began at an early age. He grew up in Chicago and often sneaked into movies at local theaters. He went on to study film at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. After graduation, he worked in the art department on films such as Batman Returns and Independence Day.
In 2004, Pissios returned to Chicago to help launch Cinespace Chicago Film Studios. The company’s first facility was a 30,000-square-foot warehouse on the city’s West Side. Cinespace has eight facilities totaling over 1.5 million square feet of studio space.
